10 March 2017: Eye-Q Super Speciality Eye Hospitals in partnership with Dubai-headquartered SkipperSeil group today inaugurated its first eye care Hospital ‘Skipper Eye-Q’ in Lagos, Nigeria. The hospital is set up to meet the growing medical needs of the local community for quality eye care services in Nigeria.
The hospital was inaugurated by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman and CEO- Dangote group.
As per The National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey in Nigeria conducted in 2005-2007, it is estimated that 1.13 million individuals aged 40 years are currently blind in Nigeria. A further 2.7 million adults aged 40 years are estimated to have moderate visual impairment and an additional 400,000 adults are severely visually impaired. 4.25 million adults aged 40 years in Nigeria are visually impaired or blind. A programme to assist poor Nigerians to regain their sight — “Mission for Vision” — commenced in 2005. Since then, medical professionals from India have been regularly visiting the country to carry out free surgeries across the country.
In a bid to enable more people to access medical care, the JV– Skipper Eye-Q Nigeria– aims to improve medical services in the region. It is committed to deliver its services using the most advanced, progressive and highest standards of quality eye care at affordable prices. The new centre is equipped with ultra-modern facilities for diagnostic, medical, surgical and optical ophthalmic services, as well as a team of highly qualified and experienced ophthalmologists to provide the best possible eye care.
Commenting on the launch, Mr Jitendra Sachdeva , Group President , Skipper Nigeria, said, ‘Nigeria, is the most populated country in Africa, and has an alarming number of visually impaired people. There is a dire need for quality and affordable eye care services as the services available in Lagos, are very expensive to the common man. Skipper Eye-Q is first overseas venture with an investment of $2 million, The Group has planned to invest $20 Mio dollar in Nigeria to bring about 25 Hub & Spoke model spread across various states. The Group has also signed 3 MOU with Kano, Kaduna & Katsina states to bring additional 35 hub & spoke centers under state Government Eye care expansion scheme & management contract.
