Antallerge eye drop is a sterile eye medicine used in Nigeria to relieve red, itchy and watery eyes caused by allergies. It contains two ingredients antazoline (which stops itching) and tetrahydrozoline (which clears redness). The usual dosage for adults is 1 to 2 drops, 2 to 3 times a day. It is not for eye infections. Do not use it for more than 28 days after opening, or for longer than 2 weeks at a time without seeing a doctor. The 10ml bottle costs around ₦1,000 to ₦2,000 in Nigeria depending on the pharmacy.
Important: This blog gives general information. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist. Always read the leaflet inside the box, and see an eye specialist if your eyes do not improve after 2 days.
Antallerge eye drop is a medicine you put into the eyes to calm down allergy reactions. If your eyes get red, itchy, watery or swollen because of dust, harmattan haze, pollen, pet hair, perfume or smoke, this is the kind of drop made for you.
It is used to treat:
Antallerge eye drop has two active ingredients that work as a team:
| Ingredient | What It Does |
| Antazoline Hydrochloride 0.5mg | An antihistamine. It blocks the chemical (histamine) that makes your eyes itch and swell during an allergy. |
| Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride 0.4mg | A decongestant. It tightens the tiny blood vessels in the eye, which clears the redness fast. |
If your prescription says “gutt antallerge,” don’t worry — it is not a different product. “Gutt” is short for the Latin word “guttae,” which simply means drops. Doctors and pharmacists in Nigeria still use this short form on prescription pads.
So “gutt antallerge” just means “Antallerge drops.” It is the same medicine. It is used for the same allergy symptoms — itchy, red and watery eyes.
You may also see the product labelled as Antallerge sterile eye drops. The word “sterile” means the liquid inside is germ-free, which is important because anything you put in the eye must be clean.
The right antallerge eye drop dosage depends on your age. Here is the simple guide:
| Age Group | Recommended Dose |
| Adults | 1 to 2 drops in each affected eye, 2 to 3 times a day |
| Children over 2 years and teenagers | 1 drop in each eye, 2 to 3 times a day |
| Elderly (60+) | 1 drop in each eye, 2 to 3 times a day |
| Children under 2 years | Do NOT use. See a doctor for an alternative. |
Tip: If you wear contact lenses, take them out before putting in the drop. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
For Antallerge, the safe answer is 2 to 3 times a day. In severe allergy attacks, the leaflet allows up to once every hour for a short period — but only under a doctor’s guidance.
Using more than the suggested amount won’t make your eyes feel better faster. In fact, the opposite happens. Overusing decongestant eye drops causes a problem called “rebound redness” — your eyes look more red than before once the drop wears off. Many people then put in even more drops, and the problem keeps growing. Stick to the dose on the box.
Two clear time rules to remember:
Antallerge is not made for daily long-term use. It is for short bursts — for example, during the harmattan season or when allergies flare up. Using it for weeks at a time without a check-up is not safe.
Most people use Antallerge with no trouble. But like all medicines, it can have side effects. The common antallerge eye drop side effects are:
| Side Effect | How Often It Happens |
| Mild burning or stinging right after the drop | Common, fades in seconds |
| Brief blurry vision | Common, clears in 1-2 minutes |
| Headache | Rare |
| Faster heartbeat (especially in babies and elderly) | Rare |
| Allergic reaction to the drop itself | Very rare, but possible |
| Dry feeling after the redness clears | Sometimes |
Stop and see a doctor if: you get a strong burning that lasts, your vision drops, your eyes hurt, or you see swelling around the eyes after using the drop.
The antallerge eye drop price in Nigeria changes a little from one pharmacy to another, but it stays one of the more affordable allergy eye drops. Here is a rough guide:
| Pack Size | Typical Price Range (NGN) |
| Antallerge 10ml sterile eye drop | ₦1,000 to ₦2,000 |
| With pharmacy delivery in Lagos / Abuja | ₦1,500 to ₦2,500 (incl. delivery) |
Prices may go up during harmattan when demand is high, or down with online pharmacy discounts. Always check the expiry date and the manufacturer’s seal before buying.
Important: Antallerge eye drop is NOT for eye infections. It is only for allergies. Using the wrong drop can make an infection worse.
This is one of the biggest mistakes people make. Allergy and infection look similar from outside both cause red, watery eyes. But they need totally different treatments.
| Allergy | Infection |
| Both eyes affected at once | Often starts in one eye, then spreads |
| Itchy is the main feeling | Pain, gritty feeling or sensitivity to light |
| Watery, clear discharge | Yellow, green or sticky discharge, especially on waking |
| Comes with sneezing or running nose | Comes with fever or cold-like symptoms |
| Treated with anti-allergy drops like Antallerge | Treated with antibiotic or antiviral drops only |
Eye infections, also called conjunctivitis or “pink eye” usually need antibiotic eye drops such as ciprofloxacin, gentamicin or moxifloxacin. These are prescription medicines. Never share antibiotic drops between family members.
If you can’t tell whether you have an allergy or an infection, don’t guess. Book a quick comprehensive eye examination most eye check-ups take less than 30 minutes and you’ll leave with the right drop.
Self-medicating with eye drops is risky. See a specialist if:
You can book an appointment at any Skipper Eye-Q branch in Lagos or Abuja. Our team will check whether your eyes need an allergy drop, an antibiotic, or something else entirely.
Antallerge is for allergies only, not for eye infections.
Adult dose: 1-2 drops, 2-3 times a day. Children over 2: 1 drop, 2-3 times a day. Never under 2 years.
Throw away the bottle 28 days after opening, even if liquid is left.
If symptoms last more than 2 days, see a doctor — it may not be an allergy at all.
Affordable in Nigeria, around ₦1,000 to ₦2,000 for a 10ml bottle.
Antallerge eye drops are used to relieve red, itchy and watery eyes caused by allergies, including hay fever, dust, harmattan haze, pollen and pet dander. They contain antazoline (an antihistamine) and tetrahydrozoline (a decongestant) and work together to stop itching and reduce redness within minutes.
Once opened, an Antallerge bottle should be used within 28 days and then thrown away. As for treatment length, do not use it for more than 2 days without seeing improvement. If symptoms continue, stop and see an eye doctor — the problem may be an infection that needs antibiotics, not allergy drops.
For Antallerge, the standard dose is 1 to 2 drops in each affected eye, 2 to 3 times a day. In severe allergy attacks, a doctor may allow more frequent use for a short time. Do not exceed the leaflet dose, as overusing decongestant drops can cause rebound redness.
Antallerge is not for eye infections. Eye infections need antibiotic drops such as ciprofloxacin, gentamicin or moxifloxacin, which are prescription medicines. Tell-tale signs of infection are yellow or green discharge, eye pain, and one eye being affected first. Always see an eye doctor for the right diagnosis.
Gutt antallerge is the same as Antallerge eye drops. “Gutt” is short for the Latin “guttae,” meaning drops, used in medical prescriptions. It is used to treat allergic eye symptoms — itching, redness, watering and swelling caused by pollen, dust, harmattan or pet allergens.
The most common antallerge eye drop side effects are mild burning right after putting in the drop, brief blurry vision and a dry feeling later. Headache and fast heartbeat are rare. Stop using and see a doctor if you have strong burning, eye pain, swelling around the eye or any drop in vision.
The antallerge eye drop price in Nigeria for a 10ml bottle is usually between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000, depending on the pharmacy and city. Online pharmacies sometimes offer lower prices, while delivery service can add ₦500 to ₦1,000. Prices may rise during harmattan season when demand is high.
